Maceration — orange wine

Macération

Gewurztraminer

Orange wine Lenz
Macération bottle

Demonstration page — the tasting notes and serving advice are drafts written to show the layout. To be reviewed and corrected by the estate before going live.

A gewurztraminer treated like a red: the skins macerate with the juice. The result has nothing of the sweet, perfumed gewurztraminer one expects — it is dry, tannic, structured, amber in colour. Aged in sandstone amphora, tank and old cask. The estate’s freest wine.

Tasting.

Appearance
Orange amber, slightly hazy — the wine is unfiltered.
Nose
Orange peel, black tea, sweet spices, dried flowers.
Palate
Dry and tannic, an almost rasping texture at first, then melting. Bitter, long finish.

Food pairings.

  • Indian, Lebanese, Moroccan cooking
  • Washed-rind cheeses
  • Spiced charcuterie
  • Roasted vegetables, squash, cumin carrots

The sommelier’s note.

Serve warmer than a classic white. A light deposit is normal: this is an unfiltered wine.
